Begun in 1990
as the Greater Miami
Valley Conference (GMVC) Academic Competition, the league
members were Greenville, Northmont, Piqua, Sidney, Trotwood,
Troy, Vandalia Butler, and West Carrollton. At this time,
West Carrollton High School had left the Western Ohio League and
joined the GMVC. Wilma Jingling, then with West
Carrollton's gifted program, and Jim Sparrow, their academic
coach, were instrumental in guiding the development of the new
academic competition. The league's coaches met at Vandalia
Butler, with Lee Miller of Sidney as the chair, and the new
competition was born. As the years progressed, Trotwood
left the competition, and the group came to include as members
first Tri-Village High School and, when they no longer competed,
Tecumseh High School. When in 2001 West Carrollton dropped
the competition, Tippecanoe High School became a member. |
