LAST WEEK: February 22-February 26
Students read Civil War literature:  Frederick Douglass and Harriet Jacobs,a and watched the movie Pudd'nhead Wilson based on the Mark Twain novel.  Classes also read and took notes on an essay by Langston Hughes commenting on Twain's novel.

THIS WEEK: March 1-March 5
Students will begin reading the novel A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest Gaines.  Readings in Civil War literature will be completed with a test on Monday 3/8.  Friday:  reading in novel. 

NEXT WEEK: March 8-March 12
Students will read and study realistic writing of the late 19th century.  Study of A Lesson Before Dying will continue.
